Our Grant Process
JLS is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. In order to make a larger impact in the community, JLS has narrowed its focus: The Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect.
The Project Review and Development Committee is seeking project proposals that utilize both funding and volunteers. Our JLS volunteers make a difference in the Greater Springfield area daily; they are well trained, committed and passionate about serving the community.
Note: We are now accepting concept letters for community projects from local not-for-profit agencies and organizations. Project funding and volunteer placement will be fulfilled during the JLS fiscal year, which runs June 2013 through May 2014. All proposals submitted must relate to the prevention of child abuse and neglect in our community.
Concept letters are due by August 3, 2012. Late letters will not be accepted. Letters CAN be emailed. Please e-mail concept letters to Jill Baker, Project Review and Development Chair at email@example.com
How to Apply
STEP ONE : CONCEPT LETTER
Organizations are required to submit one copy of a one-page concept letter with a brief description of the project, including the critical need to be addressed, dollar amount requested, number of volunteers needed and contact information. Letters that exceed one page or include a completed application or attachments will be rejected at this point in the process.
STEP TWO : CONCEPT LETTER REVIEW
The Project Review and Development Committee will meet and review your concept letter. You will be notified, in writing, of the approval or denial of your concept letter within two to four weeks. If approved, you will be asked to submit a completed grant application.
STEP THREE : GRANT APPLICATION
Once your concept letter is approved, you will be asked to submit a completed grant application. The deadline to submit the full application will be posted in your approval letter. STEP FOUR : APPLICATION REVIEW AND GRANT FUND AWARDS
The Project Review and Development Committee will meet and review your application. You may be contacted to arrange a site visit, provide additional information or asked to make a presentation before the Committee if there are issues requiring clarification.
In order to determine the suitability of a potential project, the Project Review and Development Committee will use the following criteria when evaluating the proposal:
Community need and community impact
Opportunity for JLS volunteer training, development and participation
Available funds within JLS and the community
Acknowledgement of JLS involvement in the project
Whether the project serves our focus of the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect
Volunteer shifts are typically three to four hours
Potential projects could take place over the course of one day or multiple days over the course of the league's fiscal year.
You will find the Grant Request Instructions below. Included in these instructions are the Junior League of Springfield’s goals and mission statement.
