Mission Statement
The Junior League of Springfield, Inc. is an organization of women committed
to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving
the community through the effective action and leadership of trained
volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
Membership Profile
JLS reaches out to women of all races, religions and national origins who
demonstrate an interest in and a commitment to voluntarism. Membership in
the Junior League of Springfield is open to any women over the age of 21. No
woman shall be excluded from membership because of race, religion, national
origin, or disability.
AJLI Affiliation
JLS began in 1959 as the Community Service League of Springfield and
became the 231st member of the Association of Junior Leagues International,
Inc. (AJLI) in 1976. Today, this organization consists of leagues in 294
communities throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Great Britain.
More than 171,000 Junior League members - reflecting a wide range of
backgrounds, interests and professional pursuits - work together to identify
unmet needs, forge effective coalitions and work for change. The Association
of Junior Leagues International, Inc. has been providing support,
guidance and leadership development opportunities to member Leagues for more
than 80 years.
