The theme we have chosen for the 2008-2009 Springfield Junior League is "It's A Wonderful League".

In the 1946 Frank Capra movie It's a Wonderful Life, an angel is sent to help George Bailey see what an incredible impact his life had made on the fictional Bedford Falls and what it would look like had he not lived into adulthood. In the same way, I tried to imagine how different Springfield might have looked had there been no Junior League.

This year we will be celebrating our 50th Anniversary of providing funding, resources and trained volunteers to the Springfield community. Over the years, we helped start The Discovery Center, The Visiting Nurses Association, CASA, The Regional Girls' Shelter, Primetime at the YMCA, Summer Teen Program at Boys and Girls Club, KOZK Public Television, Teen Court, Leadership Springfield and of course, our signature project, Isabel's House, the Crisis Nursery of the Ozarks. These are just a few examples of how our volunteers have made a contribution to improve the quality of life in our city.

Not only have we helped start these programs, many of our league members continue to use their JLS training to serve on the boards of these organizations and many other not-for-profit boards throughout Springfield.

The Junior League of Springfield has made a difference in the landscape of our town and in the lives of so many people. It is exciting to be part of the history and accomplishments made by so many women who, over the years, have volunteered their time, treasure and talents in the pursuit of making a better life for all.
