JLS Announces Founders Fund

The Junior League of Springfield, MO (JLS) is pleased to announce the establishment of the Founders Fund, a permanent endowment that will provide funding for projects and/or scholarships in perpetuity.

This fund honors the five women who first established the Community Service League of Springfield in 1959 – that in 1976 became the 231st Junior League in the country. Founders Cynthia Hollander, Patty Brooks, Suzanne Tynes, Anne Wakeman and Jan Knauer Horton shared a vision that women could make a positive contribution to Springfield through voluntarism and fundraising. Since then, JLS has enabled thousands of women to receive training and education to advance their personal and professional leadership skills while addressing community needs. JLS members have supported projects such as the Discovery Center of Springfield, Isabel’s House, Ozarks Public Television, Children’s Clothing Bank, Girls Club, Dickerson Park Zoo Educational Amphitheater, Hospice, Ozarks Food Harvest, Leadership Springfield, Reading is Fundamental, Teen Parent Program, Teen Court, Ronald McDonald House Mobile Dental Care Unit and more.

Donations from thirty-seven Junior League Past Presidents and Past Management Directors established the fund at the Community Foundation of the Ozarks. Junior League members, former members and community members who have benefitted from the activities of the Junior League are encouraged to include the Founders Fund at the Junior League of Springfield in their charitable giving.
