The Junior League of Springfield (JLS) is proud to announce the 2017 recipients of The Building Better Communities Scholarship and the Mary Riley Wolfe Memorial Scholarship.

The Building Better Communities Scholarship is a scholarship opportunity for non-traditional female students and is awarded to a female student participating in a program eligible to receive a degree or license upon graduation. This scholarship was developed as another way to give the women in our community a hand-up, strengthening the rungs on the ladder of opportunity that so often can leave women behind. Thanks to the generosity of our 2016 Charity Ball attendees JLS was able to award eight scholarships this year.

The 2017 recipients of the JLS Building Better Communities Scholarship are: Amber Crockett (Nursing; OTC), Bailey Grace (Agriculture; OTC), Jayme Kim (Physical Therapy; OTC), Amy Lance (Nursing; OTC), Jaclyn Malik (Dental Hygiene; OTC), Roeshia Rosenau (Nursing; OTC), Jacyln Shaw (Nursing; OTC), Lauren Wilson (Occupational Therapy; OTC). Each recipient received a $500 scholarship.

The Mary Riley Wolfe Memorial Scholarship is a tribute to past president Mary Wolfe, who lost her battle with breast cancer after serving generously in leadership within JLS. It has been awarded each year since 1995 to outstanding young women from southwest Missouri who exemplify dedication to improving ones community through volunteer service. This year, the Scholarship Committee awarded two scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each.

The 2017 recipients of the JLS Mary Riley Wolfe Memorial Scholarship are: Emily Richardson (Buffalo High School) and Jamie Sampson (Kickapoo High School)

“The recipients of both the Building Better Communities Scholarship and Mary Riley Wolfe Memorial Scholarship are excellent examples of how the Junior League of Springfield develops the potential of women of any age by providing scholarship opportunities for education,” said Mary Kromery, President of JLS. “We are so proud that our organization has the opportunity to support these women in their educational endeavors.”
